New mentors to the Resident Educator Program are required to complete a two-day mentor academy to receive mentor certification. This two-day academy replaces the previous RE mentor trainings: IM, and RE-1.

Virtual Academy Introduction
The Ohio Virtual Mentor Academy is an alternative to the two-day, face-to-face Mentor Academy. It covers the same content that constitutes the face to-face Academy. As such, it is divided into two parts including Part A: Mentor as Learner and Part B. Mentor
as Decision maker. Participants who successfully complete the Virtual Mentor Academy are awarded the same 12 Professional Development Hours as those attending the face-to-face Academy.
The Virtual Mentor Academy is a blended learning experience consisting of self-guided, asynchronous work in the Ohio Department of Education’s (ODE) Learning Management System (LMS) and synchronous learning facilitated by Ohio’s state mentor trainers.
The Virtual Mentor Academy is offered over a two-week period. Participants must complete approximately four hours of self guided asynchronous work in the LMS prior to each of the two, two-hour synchronous sessions. Participants have one full week before each synchronous session to allow them to complete the four-hours of work with the flexibility to learn anywhere and anytime during that week.
